Leaflets Left Lifeless
As I do a lot of travel locally and nationally I tend to acquire a lot of well crafted leaflets about places of interest. When they get really old I throw them away but inbetween times they tend to languish on a shelf or in a box or at the back of the odd drawer. I also have a lot of visitors to my house but what a pity that I’m not organised enough to give them the benefit of other people’s leaflet production skills and cheer my visitors on their way to another grand day out.
A Good Rack And Opinion*
Obviously the answer is a leaflet rack and as I have a lot of leaflets I need a lot of rack space so this is large. You may not choose to make it this way but let’s have a look. For something to turn out good you’ve got to have a plan. This was the plan.
* Sorry this is an Engineering pun.
Actuality Better Than Words
Whilst the basic dimensions above are accurate I decided on a number of improvements:
•To stop dust gathering I made the top edge of the rack sloping like the lower edge;
•Each shelf still slopes back to naturally gather the leaflets (this is not an optical illusion);
•I moved the dowel retainers higher to prevent the leaflets falling out;
•The shelf dividers are not moveable. These have turned out to be very useful as adjustable subject dividers.
Once built the whole is varnished with your favourite coloured varnish.
A Great Attachment
The weight of the whole thing is a considerable 17kg. In order to fix this to the wall I first installed a strongly attached picture rail. The top edge of the rack has four mirror brackets with a reversed 20mm bolt lock-nutted into each one. These act as extremely strong picture hooks which can then be hooked over the rail. This means that the rack can slide, left or right, to exactly the position that looks the best and the whole unit can be removed easily if need be.
I racked my brains for a better idea !
